NBA Trade Rumors: Atlanta Hawks Could Let Go of Trae Young Weapon Amid Intriguing NBA Draft Plan
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It is going to be an eventful offseason for the Atlanta Hawks. They have just won the top pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. They are also seemingly facing a decision on star point guard Trae Young , who has been a magnet of trade rumors of late. Another recent target of trade rumors on the side of the Hawks is veteran big man Clint Capela, who could be moved by Atlanta as well.

Clint Capela’s Future With the Atlanta Hawks in Question

It is only natural for Capela to find himself in trade rumors. For one, there is only one year left on his current deal. He will be pocketing $22.265 million in the 2024-25 NBA campaign. The Hawks may also take a big man with their No. 1 pick which would add another body to their frontcourt that already has Onyeka Okongwu, whom Atlanta just signed to an extension.

Veteran Hawks center Clint Capela is expected to be on the trading block this summer, Marc Stein reports at Substack.

As Stein explains, the Swiss big man will be on an expiring $22.3MM contract in 2024/25. Atlanta won the draft lottery and gave Onyeka Okongwu a four-year rookie scale extension last offseason, so Capela could be on move, particularly if the team chooses a big man with the No. 1 overall pick.

Capela just turned 30 years old but he does appear to have at least a few more good years left in him. In the 2023-24 NBA season, the big man from Switzerland averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.
