Skip Bayless recently shared deeply personal insights about his relationship with his mother, Levita Bayless, on "The Skip Bayless Show." He revealed that, unlike many people, he does not miss his mother, Levita Bayless, explaining that she never showed him love or care during his upbringing. This starkly contrasts with his wife, Ernestine, who had a very close and loving relationship with her own mother.

"Mother's days are so tough on my wife, Ernestine. She was the youngest of three. And she was the most attached, maybe the most dependent upon her mom. I was just the opposite. I was the oldest."

"I don't miss my mother. I mean, how do you miss someone who never loved you, never told you or showed you one time as you were growing up that she cared at all about you."

"But now please understand, I dearly loved who my mother was. I was in awe of my mother. My mother was something. Biggest personality I have ever known was my mother could. I actually have a whole lot of my mother in me."

"I have been blessed to be very successful and to have made a lot of money on TV and radio because I am my mother's son. When I unleash on camera that is all Levita, that was her name, Levita  Catherine Potter, her maiden name."

"I've always given my mother credit for doing two things for me. She made me go to church every Sunday only to impress her mother, who was also going to said church. But church did save me. I could have gone south so quickly because I had no rules. Church kept me on my path to where I am today."

"She forced me to take public speaking lessons that I despised starting second grade until maybe fifth grade. Why? Because her mother had made her take the same lessons. How blessed was I? My mom passed away at 91 back in 2017. The more I think about it, my mom was something. Yeah, you know I do miss her some."

Bayless described his mother as having a huge personality and being a significant influence on his life, despite their lack of emotional connection. He acknowledged that many aspects of his successful career can be attributed to her.

For instance, she insisted he attend church every Sunday, which provided him with structure and a moral compass. She also made him take public speaking lessons, a skill that has been crucial in his career in sports broadcasting.

Despite these positive influences, Bayless grew up in a challenging environment. Both his parents were alcoholics, which created a turbulent home life. He often stayed with his grandmother, who had a housekeeper named Katie Bell Henderson.

Katie Bell played a crucial role in his upbringing, providing him with the stability and guidance that he lacked at home. She taught him right from wrong and helped steer him away from the potential pitfalls of his unstable environment.

In the past, Bayless credited Katie Bell with being a more significant maternal figure in his life than his own mother. She was a strong and wise woman who treated him with kindness and discipline, which helped shape his values and character.

While Skip Bayless did not have a close or affectionate relationship with his mother, he recognized the important, albeit indirect, positive impacts she had on his life. He also highlights the critical role that Katie Bell Henderson played in his upbringing, providing the love and guidance that he did not receive from his own parents. This complex dynamic has profoundly influenced Bayless's perspective on family and success.
