Per Mike Traini of 247sports, Illinois Football has a crystal ball in for Torrie Cox Jr. The experienced DB has played the last three seasons in the MAC at Ohio University and has started a large majority of games in the past two seasons. In the past two seasons, Cox Jr. has totaled 1.5 sacks, 4 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 7 pass deflections. Additionally, Torrie is actually the son of a former NFL defensive back, Torrie Cox.
Cox Jr would be an important depth piece in a rather young defensive backroom. Outside of newly signed transfer, Terrance Brooks, and veteran Tyler Strain, there is not much playing experience on the roster. Cox Jr is 5 foot 8, however, he seems to have strong instincts and hands as per his stat line.
Illinois Football is hoping to finalize its current roster before the summer of 2024. Typically, Bret Bielema and his staff have shown that they like to start off the summers strong with prep recruiting. They usually host a large amount of priority recruits to kick off their summer in hopes of creating some momentum. The current Illini roster has some holes to fill, however.
They are heavily looking for impact players on the defensive line and in the defensive backfield. Recently, they added Terrance Brooks, an experienced starter from a College Football playoff team. With Cox Jr. hopefully joining the fold, Illinois Football will now focus on finalizing their defensive line.
